You could: reset the world spawn at an ideal point with: /setworlspawn. create pathways around your world. substitute mounted compasses for structures. (e.g an arrow) use maps set to maximum size. use rails or some other system to navigate for you.
To test I set up a repeat command block with /spawnpoint @p ~ ~ ~ going infinitely, but it does not seem to set the spawnpoint on the island. I moved the world spawn with /setworldspawn on top of the repeat block to try to keep it spawned in, but it still doesn't work. Even if I am next to the command block, it doesn't work.
