Usually, though, this kind of issue is more related to the ignition lock cylinder than the electrical part of the switch. How the Ignition Switch Works. Your vehicle’s ignition switch has four positions that activate different systems: Lock/Off. The lock/off position cuts off power from all circuits and locks the steering wheel. If your Ford fails to start remotely, the horn will beep—unless you’ve enabled “quiet start,” which can be turned off or on in the information display. Depending on your settings, the car will run for either 5, 10, or 15 minutes before automatically shutting off if the car isn’t started. This can be accomplished with the truck running and in park, just by using the left steering wheel buttons. I disabled the auto lock feature on my 18 because I was sick of getting out of the truck while it was running and the tailgate was locked. It’s in the settings menu on the instrument cluster on my 18 Limited SRW. 1: Sit in the drivers seat with the drivers door open. 2: Insert the key into the ignition switch and turn it to on (not acc) 5 times (on-lock, on-lock, on-lock, on-lock, on) within a 10 second period. The status monitors LED turns on, and the piezo chirper sounds once. ***You must perform the next steps within 30 seconds***. Step 2: Turn on the ignition. Insert your car key into the ignition and turn it on just so that the accessories activate, but not the engine. Step 3: Do a secondary check on the anti-theft light. If it is no longer blinking, turn the key to the “off” position and let your car sit for a couple of minutes. Note: You cannot permanently switch off the Automatic Engine Shutdown feature. When you switch it off temporarily, it turns on the next time you start your vehicle. Click on one of the drop-downs below to learn how to temporarily disable Automatic Engine Shutdown. 1)Turn the ignition from OFF to ON (don't turn engine on). Then press the unlock control (door unlock button) 3 times. 2) Turn the ignition to OFF and then press the unlock control 3 times. This is taken directly from the 2006 owners manual and I can confirm that it works on the same model. 3) Turn the ignition to ON (don't turn the engine on When you electronically lock your vehicle, the power door lock switch and interior trunk release switch will no longer operate after 20 seconds. You must unlock your vehicle with the remote control or keyless keypad, or switch the ignition on, to restore function to these switches. You can switch this feature on or off in the information display. The automatic door locks (UNLOCK) function can be switched ON/OFF by performing the following operation. Close all doors (door switch OFF). Turn ignition switch ON. 3. Within 20 seconds of turning the ignition switch ON, press and hold the door lock and unlock switch to the UNLOCK position for more than 5 seconds. BTW, the going backwards thing is to turn your hubs off if you’ve got automatic hubs. I haven’t, mine are manual, the autos broke and Nissan wanted over £300 plus VAT PER SIDE, so I got cnqP.
